Two days ride in Tianmushan.

With the first cold days we decided to go to Tianmushan, a well known mountain (1500m alt. max.) at about 4h drive south-west from Shanghai.

We left the French Concession on Friday night.

It rained with a strong wind the night before we start riding. Hopefully, even if the cold wind did not stop it was at least not raining when we started riding our bikes.

We decided to explore a new area the Saturday morning. We started with a long uphill ride on a tarmac road.

Our hotel was at 450m altitude. This long road brought us up to 1150m altitude. Tianmushan Mountain is a little bit higher but we were obliged to stop there as we were not welcomed to ride inside the National Park. This was not a bad thing as it was really freezing up there.

Due to the cold temperature we did not stop too long and we started our downhill ride following a small crest path. It was a nice trail... but this last no longer than 1km!

Rapidely the trail became really sloping! It is clearly not a hiking path. This was certainly opened a few years ago to bring water to the top of Tianmushan (during our entire downhill ride we followed small water pipes freshly set up there).

I am not sure many people already used this trail! I am pretty convinced we were the first ones putting our mtb wheels on it!!!

We clearly did not ride the full downhill slope. It was tight. We lost about 700m elevation in just 3km!!!

Anyway the view was great and the sun started to appear on our ride back.

On Saturday afternoon we did a small but very nice loop. We were not able to ride much more considering all the energy we used earlier in the morning and moreover considering the still cold temperatures.

On Sunday we decided to ride a bit lower in the valley to get warmer temperature.

We had almost no wind and it was a very nice ride.

At the end of the weekend, we rode 43.6km with almost 2000m altitude gain.

It was not so bad for those conditions!
